Menu Plan Monday 2/24/14

Another busy week behind us!  It was a good week though.  We had lots of activities.  The Middle Man took his black belt test on Saturday so he needed to get to Taekwondo class several times last week to make sure he was ready.  We also had baseball practice (indoor) and Cub Scout cross over.  I have one picture of the back of Middle Man's head from the cross over because the Little Monkey started screaming and I had to take him out.  But hey, at least I was there ;)  Black Belt Testing was loooonnnnggggg.  Thank goodness Hubs was there to keep the Little Monkey busy.  It was 3 hours.  But it was worth it.  We now have a black belt in the family.

This weeks menu:

Friday:  Wild Mushroom Pasta :  Hubs and I liked this but the kids were not big fans.  I had a different recipe in mind when I planned my menu but then I couldn't remember what I was going to do so I found this one instead.  It's a good recipe but I just think that my kids aren't mushroom fans.

Saturday:  Dinner at Outback Steakhouse to celebrate Middle Man's black belt.  We like Outback because they are generally allergy aware.  Of course you still have to make sure they know about the allergies and make sure the kitchen can handle your requests.  We bring our chef cards and make sure we talk to a manager and the waiter/waitress.  We always ask for Middle Man's steak to be "cooked in a clean pan, not on the grill".  They asked if they could cook it on foil but on the grill.  Pan cooking would take a long time.  That was an ok alternative for us.  They cooked it on a part of the grill that didn't have food on it.  He also got Ahi Tuna as an appetizer without the sauces, undressed baked potato and green beans.

Sunday:  Chicken au Champagne, green beans, salad:  The recipe is originally from French Women Don't Get Fat by Mireille Guilano.  She says that you should use Veuve Clicquot as the champagne.  At the cheapest it's $50.00 a bottle.  She owns the company so that's easy for her to say.  Those of us who don't want to spend that much (or can't) can use something cheaper.  I used a $7.99 bottle of Cook's Brut.  It worked just fine.  The only downside is that it tastes awful so you won't probably want to drink the unused portion.

Monday:  Original Ranch Pork Chops, oven roasted potatoes, baby lima beans, salad

Tuesday:  Fried Cabbage and Chicken Sausage, rolls

Wednesday:  Vegetarian Tortilla Soup (slow cooker), corn bread

Thursday:  Clean Up Day

Lunches:

Turkey or ham sandwiches, salads with left over chicken on top, Potage d'hiver soup (made on Sunday for the week for mom), cheese quesadilla

Breakfast:
Fruit, smoothies, yogurt, bacon, ham, toast and gf cereal
