Each year we like to do something fun with the boys right before school starts. It's like a last of summer hurrah. I had big plans to rent a cabin and go caving but the boys wanted to visit Papa and Grandma at their cabin. We had a great time and got "back to nature".
The view here is gorgeous and I could live here (in a nice house with in door plumbing).
Yes, this is a bear. We went for a hike hoping to see wild life and we saw a deer, and then a bear. The Older Boy was completely freaked out but as you can tell by my photos (they are really bad) the bear wasn't that close. He didn't seem like he knew we were there. He sure was cute though.
He wasn't THAT big. And right after this it stormed. While we were in woods. Older Boy was so not happy.
Here are my guys at the beginning of the hike. All seemed well here. No bear. No storm. Looks can be deceiving.
The boys at the Elk Viewing Center. They really enjoyed this. So did I!

We roughed it this weekend. We camped well below you and was in a tent. It rained. And rained. Hold on . . . oh, and rained some more Friday evening - Saturday morning. Our gear was muddy and gross. We bring our own "facilities" along, as I don't do pit toilets. That is just beyond my being able to rough it. I'll shower in the woods. I'll heat my dish water and bath water on the fire, but there is no way you are getting me near one of those. :literally shivering thinking of the grossness: Bummed that we didn't get to see a bear, though. Thought I heard one, but it was a guy in a tent 20 feet away snoring. Loudly.
Had a great time. I'll send pictures later.
Hooray for great times to unplug and enjoy nature and the people we love. Hooray for indoor plumbing! Tell Aunt Patti that I didn't get a feast if I didn't cook it myself. The pancakes tasted okay, but looked horrible. I did a great job on the corn on the cob, beans out of a can and the Nathan's dogs popped from the package! ;)
I'm an indoor girl, too.
I'd be freaked out by a bear that close, too!
Looks like it ended up being great despite rain and wild critters.
