Driving the kids to school this morning was an odyssey. Where as down south you get a snow day for 1 inch, we seem to need at least 1 foot (or more since the previous Governor made a rule that we only get 3 snow days each year and we've already used those... a genius he was not).
We're supposed to get 6-8 more inches by the end of the day. That should make pick up even more fun and exciting.
My drive in photos (bad photos because I took them with my cell phone*, but photos nonetheless):

Where's the plow?

Maybe they didn't have a snow day because even though the roads were terrible the sun was out.

*It is not advisable to take cell phone pictures while driving on bad roads. Just a little PSA.

We're on our third snow day this week -- and we had 2 or 3 before Christmas because of ice. Even my youngest is getting bored and ready to go back to school. I'm afraid we'll have to make up these days at some point that will prove to be...not fun, to say the least. At one point when we were in SC, the only time to make up for snow days was to tack them on to the end of the school year -- so after graduation everyone but the seniors has almost another whole week of school.
Our problem here is that counties don't want to invest in snowblowers and lots of equipment that they'll only use a couple of times a year. They salt the roads, but that's about it. Then the slush freezes over at night causing new problems the next morning. I think one or two of these days we could have gotten by with just a 1 or 2 hour delay, but, then, I haven't been out in it.
Be safe out there!
Of for crying out loud. I just read about your brilliant governor over at Amy's blog. What a mess. Seriously? Who in their right mind would make it a state law to only have THREE snow days in a state with Lake Effect snow??
I'm sorry. Good luck and wishes for safe travel this afternoon.
Ah yes, that is exactly what our roads looked like. Hubs ended up coming home early and he picked K- up. He was up in the snowbelt today and he said it was awful. He still had 4 people show up for the hike in a snowstorm. Funny thing was that one woman was about 70 and the poor thing couldn't make it 10 feet. (Sad, I know. My guess is that she did not go the rest of the way.) Hubs said that he shoveled the drive when he got home and we had about 10" of new snow on top of the 3-4" we already had. (I'm not claiming it is a ton by any stretch, just sayin'.)
Perhaps they will rethink the snow day policy, yes? Hubs had a fit and said that it was not safe for any child out there.
