The stomach flu has hit our house. It's the one thing that we've managed to avoid this season, but sadly, no more. The Little Man is of course the one to be hit first. Yesterday evening and last night was a festival of yuck at our house. It's only a matter of time before we all get it. We left him down stairs on the couch until we felt the worst was over (Around the time
Apolo Ohno won the Bronze which I believe was around 11:30 pm est). I went to pick him up to carry him upstairs and the worst was not over. He christened the back of my robe (Good thing it's big fleecy one. It saved the rest of me). Needless to say the worst wasn't over and I ended up sleeping with him so I could monitor all of the activity. We were both up all night. Between the exhaustion and him breathing me on me all night, I know I'm next.
So the week doesn't look like it's going to turn out quite like I planned. I hope he feels better soon. Poor kid. He's just miserable. And maybe it's just the exhaustion, but I'm starting not to feel so well too.

It's the season of Lent
This past Wednesday was Ash Wednesday. It's the beginning of Lent. Here at our house we've marked the season by giving up things and by deciding to give ourselves to things. It's the holiest season in the Catholic church and I'm trying to make sure that boys understand this( read more about Lenten sacrifice here and here).
We are participating in Operation Rice Bowl and we are going Meatless on Wednesdays and Fridays (which to be totally honest isn't a huge sacrifice for me since I was lacto-ovo vegetarian for over 10 years).
During Lent, we are remembering the sacrifices that Jesus made for us. We are making our lives open to receive Him and "turning our lives more completely over to Christ and his way of life".
More about Lent and Fasting can be found here.

40 Ways to get the most out of the Lenten Season.
May you have a blessed and happy Lenten season!
O Jesus! Whosoever does not take up his cross and follow Thee, is not worthy of Thee. Behold, I join Thee in the Way of Thy Cross; I will be Thy assistant, following Thy bloody footsteps, that I may come to Thee in eternal life.

Chronic Illness (Food Allergies) and Relationships
WEGO Health has started a new monthly blog carnival. And this months topic is Chronic Illness and Relationships. Anyone who suffers from a chronic illness or condition knows that personal relationships change. Some grow stronger. New ones are formed. Some get strained. And some get damaged beyond repair. You can read my post about food allergies and relationships here.

Enjoy Life Product Review
Several weeks ago (I'm so behind on blogging) the wonderful people at Enjoy Life Foods sent me 2 boxes of cereal for review. The first box was Crunchy Rice and the second box was Crunchy Flax.
Both cereals were very tasty, held their crunch well and were safe for my sons allergies (wheat, rye, barley, oat, eggs and tree nuts). Both cereals reminded me of a "grape nut type" crunch and texture. The whole family "Enjoys" the cereals and uses them for more than just breakfast. We also like to add them to home made granola bars and to yogurt for extra crunch and texture.
Although I thought both cereals were very tasty, my personal favorite is the Crunchy Flax. Not only does this cereal taste good, but it's also high in fiber (6 grams) and low in sugar (2 grams). And it contains 425 mg of Omega 3's. I've had a hard time finding a tasty, gluten free, nut free cereal that is low in sugar and high in fiber. Most are low sugar/low fiber, or high in sugar content. This cereal is exactly what I was looking for!
Ingredients:
Whole Sorghum Flour, Ground Flax Seed, Honey, Raisin Juice Concentrate, Salt
And since the cereal is from Enjoy Life Foods it's "free" from the top 8 allergens and manufactured in a dedicated nut free and certified gluten free facility. I really can't ask for more than that. I've already replaced my "Crunchy Flax" box. I just wish our local grocery carried it (they carry all other Enjoy Life Products).
We love Enjoy Life Foods and use many of their products. If you haven't checked them out, you should!!
(The cereal for this review was sent to me at no cost for the sole purpose of a product review).
