Happy Sixth Birthday Little Man
My baby is six today! I can't believe you are six years old. This was a BIG year for you. You made it through Kindergarten (or better yet, I made it through Kindergarten). You loved it, you thrived, you learned so much, and you didn't let your food allergies hold you back. You grew from a little guy to a big guy, not so much in size but in attitude. You left behind many of your favorite things from the preschool years. Toys and TV shows are now moving into the realm of the grade schooler and it makes me sad to see you grow up but it also makes me happy to see grow up strong and happy. As your Mommy it's hard to say good bye to the baby but it's sweet to see you grow into the "big boy" that you are today. This year you'll be a grade schooler and I know you'll excel. Your goal for the year is to swim in the deep end of the pool by yourself and I'm sure you'll accomplish it. I love you Little Man! Have the happiest of birthdays my son.

Happy "belated" birthday to the Little Man...or should we now call him "Big Guy"? lol It's no wonder you're so proud of him, he's done so well this past year and it's quite an accomplishment that he didn't let his allergies hold him back. Good for him!! And YOU...how dare you look so good right after giving birth to him???? hehe xoxo
Look how big your little man is getting! Hope he had a wonderful birthday!
Just wanted to say Thank you for blogging about your son's allergies and asthma. I have a daughter with peanut/milk/egg allergies as well as asthma. She is starting kindergarten next week!!!! and I am terrified. I have yet to talk to the school/school nurse/teachers. Do you have any advice on what I should ask and precautions I should take to keep her safe in school? Since you have already been thru kindergarten I thought I might ask. Does your son wear a medical ID bracelet? etc. Any advice is sooo welcomed!
Stephanie,
The best suggestions that I gave give are:
1. Meet with the teacher, principal and school nurse right before school starts.
2. Discuss Emergency action plans, where to keep epis, how to handle any projects that involve food, field trips etc.
3. Go through all art supplies to check for allergens and safety.
4. Discuss how to handle food in the classroom (parties, birthdays etc) and hand washing, desk/table wiping etc.
5. Put together a safe snack box to keep in the classroom.
6. If there's a freezer, store some safe cupcakes in there for any "surprise" birthday parties.
Take a deep breath and try not to worry! Everything will be fine.
