The Little Man turns 6 (almost)

Technically the Little Man turns 6 at 11:45 AM on July 9th. But Due to the July 4th holiday and people going away we decided to have his birthday party this past weekend. In years past, we've invited kids from his preschool and many couldn't attend because they were on vacation due to the holiday. This year I thought I'd be sly and do the party BEFORE the holiday and see if we could get more kids. I know my previous post about the art of RSVP seemed a bit ranty (and it was). But we ended up with a nice group of kids (even if half didn't RSVP until a day or two before the party).

Last year the Little Man had the birthday from heck. For his 5th birthday his present was a broken collar bone and his birthday was a total bust. I planned that party months in advance and it broke my heart that he had to sit in a chair and watch other kids enjoy his party. Of course by the time this year rolled around the heart break was lessened due to time and I really didn't want to have a "big" party. I hate spending the money for these things. But my Mom was kind enough to remind me how he was robbed last year and "that you owe him a big party" (thanks Mom!). So the party wasn't necessarily BIG but it wasn't cheap either.

And he picked the place. I tried to talk him out of it. They serve pizza there and there isn't any other option. He said he didn't care and that I could bring his safe pizza for him and everyone else could have the "wheat" pizza. So I booked the party and racked up some more Disney points on my Visa.

I think the kids had a good time:

He wanted a "Mario Bros theme" and if we learned anything from the Wall-E Party it's that Mama is not a baker or cake decorator. Wall-E looked a little drunk. So Mario was a plastic man surrounded by "mushrooms". That's all I've got people. Ace Of Cakes I am not.

Use your imagination on the "mushroom" part.

The kids thought the "eyes" were the coolest part and I used a Sharpy for that. L.A.M.E. is my middle name.

Look Mom, no broken collar bone!

The Little Man's class is made up of 15 boys and 4 girls. Could you have this party anywhere other than a bouncy place? I think not.

What a fun party! I remember the pictures from last year when he had to sit out. Glad he had a good time and great attitude (about the pizza)!

Oooo! I know where you went and yes, it is a decent chunk. I am so glad that he scored a birthday party that he could enjoy this year. Last year made me so sad for him. (Though I can't recall how he broke his collar bone.)

Happy Unbroken Birthday!

Baileys Leaf,
His brother fell on him during a game of keep away causing his collar to break. Accident at its best.

Well, I wouldn't say a parent "owes" a child a party. :-) But it's nice he got one two years in a row since his last one was impacted by the broken collar bone. So glad this one went much better. I love the Mario cupcakes!!! Simple and cute is best, IMO.

Awwww bless his heart, he looked to be having a really fun time at his birthday party and how awesome that nothing happened to ruin it this year:-) I remember well the broken collar bone at his last birthday, poor guy. I'm loving the cupcakes you made, they really do look like those mushrooms in Super Mario...see, I do have an imagination! LOL Seriously, though, you did a terrific job!! xoxo

Looks like a great party! When it comes to "big parties" we generally do one every other year. It is so easy to fall into the trap of trying to out perform the previous party.

The cupcakes look great!

My granddaughter had HER 6th birthday party in just such a place! Her allergic brother was able to eat the pizza and they made an egg-free cupcake for him, but allergic Grandma had to eat elsewhere. :o( It's OK, I just had fun watching the kiddos!
